About Excool
and our technology

All Excool solutions are designed with future-proof innovation at their core. All units are made with non-corrosive, quality materials. This significantly increases the unit’s lifespan, particularly in comparison to typical data center cooling systems, saving on maintenance, repair and replacement costs.

Excool’s solutions are designed with sustainability at their core; the inception of Excool coincided with the 2008 ASHRAE change in recommended operating temperature ranges for servers in data centers, introducing stricter standards on energy efficiency. While this change meant that many manufacturers were no longer operating within the ASHRAE boundaries, behind the scenes, Excool had already been developing cooling solutions with energy efficiency at the forefront. The team spent years tirelessly adapting, developing and testing Excool’s first data cooling solution to be as energy efficient as possible, bursting on to the scene and instantly becoming a market-leader in environmental consciousness, knowing it was the future of the industry.

Excool’s cooling solutions are suitable for all data center types, including hyperscale, colocation, enterprise and edge.

Hot air from the data hall if pulled into the Zero unit by the indoor fans. Cool ambient air from outside is pulled into the unit by the indoor fans. Ambient air is then sprayed with water via baskets mounted on the outdoor fans. Heat from the returned data hall air is then transferred out through the plate heat exchanger and out into the ambient air.

The Excool Zero unit differs from typical indirect evaporative cooling systems as it minimises water consumption by using an incredibly fine mist. The Zero’s plate heat exchanger, which is Excool’s proprietary design, is smaller than its competitors’ and is made of non-corrosive material, making it more efficient. The units themselves are very compact, 30% smaller than the competition, all with its own water treatment and storage onboard.

Products and technical performance

All of our Excool cooling solutions undergo Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at our UK HQ. The testing facility offers precise environmental control, with ambient temperatures reaching up to 55°C dry bulb and 35°C wet bulb. This allows for rigorous testing under even the most extreme conditions, ensuring our cooling solutions perform optimally in any climate.

Excool have a unique gantry-based air-cooled chiller solution that allows for retrofitting of existing air-cooled data centers by removing the existing DAHU plant. This horizontal intake and discharge unit maintains the existing building footprint and allows for the provision of chilled water for direct-to-chip liquid cooling, all whilst staying within existing sound and noise planning restrictions.

Excool units are made from high-quality, long-life materials, such as stainless-steel framework and non-corrosive PVC heat exchangers. This means that rather than replacing a whole unit, all discrete components can be retrofitted and refurbished instead, prolonging the unit’s lifespan. This means that with proper maintenance, an Excool unit’s typical lifespan is longer than that of its competitors.

We offer maintenance packages upon request and as standard, all units come with a 12-month warranty with a market-leading 5-year extended warranty available.

Installation, support and maintenance

Compared to a traditional chilled-water system, using the Excool Zero to cool a data center massively reduces the install and commissioning timeframe of a project. Rather than having to install a chiller, pipework, primary pump systems, balancing valves and an AHU, the Zero unit can be positioned on the perimeter wall of a data center. Once power and water are connected, the system is ready to run.

All Excool units are built with the convinience of the end-user in mind. For example, Excool’s indirect evaporative cooling unit (IEC), the Zero unit, comes with in-built water treatment in the form of a 0.2 microns absolute biological filter and a hexametaphosphate cartridge. This level of filtration, coupled with the dynamic operating strategy of the ultra-low flow rate, high-pressure adiabatic misting, massively reduces maintenance and cleaning requirements.

On average, we recommend quarterly maintenance visits on Excool units. A single Excool technician can service 3-4 units a day.

Training is carried out on site during the commissioning phase of a project, however factory training and certification is also available for customers looking for a more in-depth course.

Innovation and future-proofing

Excool’s range of liquid-cooling solutions, ModulR, is designed to seamlessly cool even the highest density hardware. For example, Excool’s coolant distribution unit (CDU) provides targeted thermal management for high-density applications, ensuring efficient and sustainable cooling for the most demanding workloads. Through intelligent controls and high-quality hardware, rapid changes in system loads as AI clusters ramp up together are managed seamlessly. Our intelligent design anticipates and reacts with lightening-speed to the instantaneous challenges of high-density cooling, maximising your system’s efficiency while minimising environmental-impact by adopting eco-friendly coolant mixes, such as propylene and ethylene glycol.

All Excool solutions are suitable for a scalable, phased buildout. As the demand of the customer grows and changes, units can be deployed in stages to expand the site’s cooling capacity without interruption of the existing operations.
