Excool Project Insight – Telehouse, Docklands, London

Built in 2014 Telehouse North 2 (TN2) is located in London’s iconic Docklands area and at the time was Europe’s most advanced data centre and used Excools ground-breaking cooling system.

The gateway building into the East of the city, TN2  is Europe’s leading connectivity hub with access to over 530 carriers, ISP’s and ASP’s, the primary home of the London Internet Exchange and is the world’s first datacentre tower block that deploys indirect adiabatic cooling.

TN2 is 11 storeys high and offers 7,200m2 of white space spread across 6 of those floors capable of supporting 528 Racks per floor @ 4.32kW per Rack, providing 2.28MW of IT Load per floor.

A total of 52 units rated at 300kW each deliver air to the space via a flooded room principle from one side of the building. Hot air is channelled back from the datahall to the units via a false ceiling. The outdoor air reaches the units from the lower floor and percolates through the open mesh gantries to each of the upper floors. The hot outdoor air is then discharged through the building façade eliminating the risk of air recirculation.

This landmark project for Excool showcased the versatility of indirect adiabatic cooling systems, reducing capital costs, decentralising the cooling system and helping Telehouse to achieve an industry leading PUE of 1.16.
