EQUIPMENT DEPLOYED
- 42 x 400kW Excool Zero units (EXHDX4100SE) with integrated 90kW top-up DX system to maintain 24°C supply temperature at all times
Client requirements
- To develop a second London site using the most up to date technology.
- To achieve this with a market-leading efficiency and PUE below 1.2 with a cooling system that could be deployed with modularity to match the scalability of the data center.
- The facility to be designed to comply with the Uptime Institute’s Tier III resilience classification.
- A total facility of 6000m2 of net technical space rated at 2kW per m2.
- A total IT power availability of 11.4MW split over 6 data hall modules per building.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
VIRTUS LONDON2
VIRTUS LONDON2 is designed to deliver high quality customer solutions, comprised of over 6,000m2 net technical data center space, delivering 12MW of IT load.
The Zero unit was chosen for its ease of use and the operational savings from quick installation, user friendliness and easy maintenance.
The cooling system has significantly minimised energy consumption while maximising the amount of IT power available to customers.
Excool’s modular system has allowed VIRTUS to build its cooling infrastructure by increments, adding units in direct proportion to the number of racks and cabinets customers buy. This, according to VIRTUS, has been the key to minimising costs as the cooling system is closely mapped to the IT infrastructure.
The development achieved the Uptime Institutes Tier III classification for design.
This was the first time this certification had been awarded to a data center using indirect adiabatic technology in London.
